Horatio Alger National Career & Technical Scholarship Program

Receive up to $2,500 to Pursue Career and Technical Education

  • Must have completed high school or earned high school equivalency credential by spring
  • Be enrolled in a 2-year or less career technical degree/certificate program in the fall that will lead to employment
  • Attend a not-for-profit post-secondary institution
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Be under the age of 30
  • Be a U.S. citizen

Summerville Mayor’s Committee Scholarship 

The criteria for these scholarships are as follows:

1. The Applicant must be a resident of the Berkeley or Dorchester County.

2. The Applicant must have documentation of a disability. Acceptable documentation includes the following:

Current IEP – (Sections 1-5) cover page, present levels, accommodations/modifications, goals, and services
Psychological Evaluation/Re-Evaluation within the last 3 years
Medical Evaluation if disability requires qualified professional
504 Plan

3. The Applicant must provide a copy of either a High School transcript or college transcript or most recent grade report whichever is most current with the application.

We Are Their Voices Scholarship

This scholarship is available to seniors that attend Dorchester School District 2 and 4 High Schools (Summerville High School, Fort Dorchester High, Ashley Ridge High School, or Woodland High School).

Eligibility Requirements:

Accepted to attend a college, university, technical or trade school during the fall of 2020

Have a current GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Apply via e-mail and provide your name, address, phone number, and the name of the institution you plan to attend.

Provide your 500-word essay in PDF format on “The Effects of Gun Violence” and how you plan to be a voice in efforts to reduce gun violence by March 31, 2020

There will be four (4) Scholarships awarded for $500 each, with a winner from each school selected on May 1, 2020.  Scholarships will be presented at the “We Are Their Voices Inaugural Wear Orange Scholarship Brunch” on June 6, 2020.

2020 STEM SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

GENERAL OVERVIEW

The Chamber is pleased to announce that, in partnership with Robert Bosch, LLC, we will award two $1,000 renewable scholarships to two 2020 graduating seniors who will attend a four-year college or university in South Carolina with a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) related major. To qualify, the graduating seniors must be from Dorchester County or graduating seniors of member business owners/employees that are in good standing with the Chamber. 

The Chamber’s Education and Workforce Development Division focuses on several areas when deciding on recipients of the scholarships. These areas are:

Academics: We will select a student with at least a 3.5 out of a 4.0 GPA average, who might not qualify for as much financial aid. 

Need: Family income, other family members in college at the same time, and opportunities to receive financial assistance from other sources will be considered.

School / Community / Civic involvement: Sports, band, clubs, volunteer activities through church, or other community organizations.  Is the student helping others?

Work Experience: Summer or part-time jobs, with hours worked and type of work, should be a part of the application. 

College ability: Guidance Counselor must confirm applicant’s  SAT and/or ACT test scores, as well as grade point average, are acceptable for admission to a four-year institution.

Dorchester Soil and Water Conservation District

 This $500 to $1,000-dollar scholarship is offered to a senior in high school or college student that is planning to major in an agricultural or environmental related field. The scholarship will be presented to a deserving student at the District’s annual awards and recognition program that will be held on May 6th at Brosnan Forest.

The deadline for this application and supporting material is close of business on April 17th, 2020.

The Reverend Dr. E. L. & Christine O. Jackson Scholarship Fund was established in August 1991, by family and friends of the late Reverend Jackson as a living memorial to his life and work as a Pastor, Educator, and Humanitarian.  He loved young people and constantly challenged them to realize their full potential.  Reverend Jackson was the pastor of Mt.
