Woodland High School’s Army JROTC program proudly hosted its annual Cadet Ball this past Saturday, bringing together cadets, instructors, guests, and even a former cadet for an evening of tradition, recognition, and celebration. The highly anticipated event, a cornerstone of the Wolverine Battalion experience provided cadets with the opportunity to showcase their professionalism, discipline, and camaraderie outside of the classroom.
Under the leadership of Chaplain MAJ (USA Retired) John Logan Jr. and Sergeant (Ret.) Kevin Simpson, the program continues to thrive, emphasizing excellence, accountability, and leadership development among its cadets. Their guidance and mentorship were evident throughout the evening, as cadets demonstrated the values instilled in them throughout the year.
The Cadet Ball is more than just a formal dance it is a military tradition rooted in honoring service, building unity, and reinforcing the values taught throughout the year. Cadets arrived dressed in their Class A uniforms & Fancy Attire, presenting themselves with pride and attention to detail. The evening began with a formal receiving line, followed by the posting of the colors and a ceremonial opening that set a respectful and dignified tone.
One of the highlights of the evening was the continued tradition of recognizing cadet royalty. This marked only the second year Woodland High School JROTC has included the crowning of a Prince, Princess, King, and Queen at the Cadet Ball making it a special and growing tradition within the program. This year’s honorees were:
Prince: Cadet Staff Sergeant Tyler Wright

Another major highlight of the night was the recognition of the senior cadets. All seniors were presented with awards honoring their dedication and commitment to the program. In addition, they were specially recognized for their role in the recent JPA (Junior Program Assessment) inspection, where the unit earned an outstanding score of 98.8 out of 100. This achievement secured Woodland High School JROTC’s status as a Distinguished Unit with Merit for the next four years a reflection of the hard work, discipline, and teamwork demonstrated by the entire battalion, especially the senior class.
Throughout the evening, cadets also participated in traditional customs and courtesies, including formal toasts that honored leadership, unity, and the values of service. These moments added to the sense of pride and respect shared among everyone in attendance.
Following the formal portion of the evening, the atmosphere shifted to celebration as cadets enjoyed dinner, music, and dancing. The event allowed students to connect with their peers in a relaxed setting while still maintaining the standards and respect expected of JROTC members.
The Cadet Ball continues to be a meaningful tradition at Woodland High School, strengthening bonds within the program and leaving lasting memories for all who attend. The presence of a former cadet added an extra layer of pride and connection highlighting the lasting impact the program has on its members even after they graduate.
As the night came to a close, cadets departed with a renewed sense of pride, unity, and motivation to carry forward the values of leadership and service. With another successful Cadet Ball in the books, Woodland High School JROTC under the leadership of Chaplain MAJ (USA Retired) John Logan Jr. and Sergeant (Ret.)
