On a cool fall evening, the Woodland Wolverines hit the road to face off against the Andrews High School Yellow Jackets in a thrilling Friday night matchup. The Wolverines showcased their defensive and offensive skills to secure a 19-6 victory, improving their season record to 5-2.
Late in the first quarter, David Hall Jr. made a pivotal play with a clutch interception, shifting momentum in favor of Woodland. Shortly after, Al-Casio Teel hauled in a touchdown reception from quarterback Duece Salley, putting the Wolverines on the scoreboard. With the successful PAT, Woodland led 7-0 with 2:54 remaining in the first quarter.
As the first half came to a close, with only two seconds left on the clock, Duece Salley connected with his brother, Ja'Kease Salley, for a short touchdown pass. Although the PAT was missed, the Wolverines took a 13-0 lead into halftime, maintaining control of the game.
The third quarter saw a defensive battle, with neither team able to score. However, Andrews found the end zone in the fourth quarter, narrowing the gap to 13-6 after their two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving 5:48 left in the game.
Woodland quickly responded, with Dorian Britt making a key 15-yard touchdown scramble late in the fourth quarter. Though the PAT was no good, the Wolverines pulled ahead 19-6 with just 1:35 remaining on the clock. The Wolverines' defense held strong, securing the win.
With this 19-6 victory, the Wolverines improve to 5-2 on the season. They will host Burke High School next Friday night at home for Senior Night, where they’ll look to continue their winning streak.
