🎬🎤 Lights, Camera, Action at Woodland High! 🎤🎬 Mr. Coley’s Media Tech class took a hands-on approach to filmmaking as they learned how to sync wireless audio with recorded footage! 🎥✨ Students operated a cinema camera, boom mic, and wireless audio equipment while others stepped into the spotlight, acting out scenes from the classic movie The Sandlot! ⚾🎞️ With Mr. Coley coaching behind the lens, students learned how to frame the perfect shot, direct actors, and bring scenes to life. Woodland High School FBLA Shines at State Leadership Conference On February 3-5, students from Woodland High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter attended the South Carolina FBLA State Leadership Conference in Greenville, SC. Competing against some of the best business-minded students in the state, Woodland’s participants showcased their skills in various competitive events. Students competing included: * Emonny Mays & Alicia Brown – Organizational Leadership * Desmond Cain & Kerri Davis – Marketing * Alexxis Martino – Introduction to Business Communication * Ryan Haynes – Financial Math * Malachi Parker – Introduction to FBLA A standout moment from the conference was Kerri Davis' first-place finish in Marketing, earning her the opportunity to represent Woodland High School and South Carolina at the FBLA National Conference this summer in Anaheim, CA. In addition to competing, students participated in learning workshops and connected with college and university representatives, gaining valuable insights into business careers and higher education opportunities. 💅✨ Future Nail Techs in the Making! ✨💅 Last week, Mrs. Mixon and her Nail Technology class from the Dorchester County Career & Technology Center visited Woodland Middle School to showcase this amazing CTE program! 🌟 With over 30 years of experience as a licensed cosmetologist and 20 years as a salon owner, Mrs. Mixon has been shaping future professionals at DCCTC for 14 years. Her students—who come from both Dorchester District 4 (DD4) and Dorchester District 2 (DD2)—not only gave middle schoolers fabulous manicures but also shared insights about the class, certification process, and career opportunities available after completing the program. This hands-on experience, facilitated by Dr. Robyn Mixon-Davis, DD4's Transition Specialist (and Mrs. Mixon’s daughter!), was a great recruitment tool and a career pathway discovery opportunity for our students. Each month, Ms. Deb’s PIP class explores a new unit from the Pre-K Launch Curriculum by TEACHTOWN. This month, the students are learning about Community Helpers—the jobs they do, the tools they use, and how they serve the community. To make learning meaningful, the class engages in hands-on, play-based activities that bring the lessons to life. Interactive experiences, such as dressing up and role-playing, make learning both fun and relevant for young learners. On Wednesday, February 13, Ms. Deb’s students brought their lessons to life by dressing as community helpers featured in The Food Drive, the book they are currently reading. They also took an "in-school field trip," visiting various staff members to share what they’ve learned about different community roles.
