School Closure Update

Governor Henry McMaster and South Carolina Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman today released the following joint statement announcing that South Carolina’s schools will remain closed for the duration of the month of April:

“At this time, students, parents, and families should plan for South Carolina’s schools to remain closed through the month of April. Our dedicated teachers and school administrators have done a tremendous job in making it possible for our students to learn at home. We understand that the prospect of schools remaining closed for an extended period of time places stress and strain on parents and children. Rest assured, if there is any way to safely open our schools earlier, we will do that, but schools must remain closed to protect the health and safety of South Carolinians.”

On March 15, Governor McMaster issued Executive Order 2020-09, which closed public schools for students and non-essential employees through March 31st. The governor will issue an additional executive order to extend the K-12 school closures through the month of April in the coming days.
As his previous executive order did, the governor’s executive order will apply to the state’s public colleges, universities, and technical colleges, and encourage those institutions to maintain existing plans to provide instruction through virtual learning.

The state sent new WiFi equipment to replace the equipment that we initially received for our five buses. Therefore, the network and password has changed.  This information will also be shared with the bus drivers and posted on the buses.

Greetings Wolverine Family,

It is with great enthusiasm that I serve the illustrious Woodland High School as principal. Woodland was founded in 1999 upon principles of high expectations, excellence, integrity, respect, and a commitment to create exceptional opportunities for the students in our community.   As your principal, I am committed to honoring the many rich traditions and legacies of success, which have already been created; while ensuring that our students are equipped to meet the Profile of a South Carolina High School Graduate and for our students to be highly competitive in a globalized workforce.

Woodland’s tradition of excellence will continue by focusing on our mission of developing lifelong learners who will have a positive impact on our global world.  Likewise, we are cognizant that truly empowering our students for success will require a community effort.  Therefore, we invite all stakeholders to work in tandem with us as we seek to provide a world class educational experience for all of our students.  May the work we do be guided by my mantra:  Higher, Deeper, Farther, Faster.  I believe that more than before our students will achieve at higher levels with your continued support.  Together we will build deeper relationships with each other and our community.  We will ensure that our influence extends beyond the walls of Woodland High School and that our impact will be experienced with great acceleration and continued excellence.

May we all focus on being catalysts for excellence!

Sincerely,

Michael White
