All students attending Woodland High School during the 2017-2018 school year will be required to read at

least one book from the Summer Reading List. Every English teacher will require students to take an

Accelerated Reader assessment and complete an additional performance task specific to their selected

book by September 15, 2017. Each assignment will count as a major test grade. Performance tasks

may include, but not limited to:

1)    Author Study

2)    Book Project

3)    Art project to advertise the book

4)    Book Talk

5)  Writing Assignment (Prompts assigned during class)

Students who do not have an assigned English class at Woodland are still required to complete

the summer reading. They will check in with Dr. Rice. Teachers of other courses may also offer

credit to students for successfully completing the Summer Reading requirement.

This option is at the teacher’s discretion.

School librarians across SC nominated the books that appear on the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018

Young Adult Book Lists. These books may be purchased from any local book store, checked out

from the public library, or checked out from the school library. The school library will be opened

Monday – Wednesday, June 5 – June 28 from 8:30 a.m.– 12:00 noon, or by appointment.

Please call the school to schedule.
